Olney Baptist Church Olney Newton Link
As a church, we have excelled this year by means of three different ventures,
- A musical extravaganza , on March 1 st , raised in excess of £500
- A plethora of home-grown talent provided, a large audience, with a wide and varied musical programme.
- A sponsored walk (ACE and GIGG youth groups), 16 th March, will have hopefully realised in excess of £500 (tbc).
- The young people and accompanying adults walked from the market Square, at the end of the Palm Sunday service, 10 miles to Salcey Forest , en route encountering a footpath stile located in the middle of a mini lake as a result of the inclement weather which almost cancelled the event. But all 15 people made it to the end!
£600 sent to Brima Cabia for the Seed Project in Newton
- We have had a positive response from Brima regarding our sponsorship of the seed project. There was an initial shortfall of £60 because of the costs from the bank in converting it to the local currency of the leone, he reports 3,132,000 leones were spent on buying seeds and the results were in his own words:
I was able to start with twelve members both men and women and non christian inclusive. The okra prove to be the best crop for the moment. We will like to continue with it as of now. There was a sudden change in the weather, we experience heavy torental rain fall in December. The okra adjusted to this change all the twelve benificiary expect for four enjoy the good heaverst even though the market price was low because of palm oil is scarce in the market. Okra is best eating with palm oil.
For the onions: all of the twelve beneficiary complained of poor jermination during the nursery, seed beds were wash off because of the heavy rain. The havest for the onions is poor.
The good thing is that every beneficiary enjoy good time in the field and came to realised that, had it not been for the change in the weather condition we would have got a good hervest non the less onion too can grow and do well in the locality.
Solution:
We met as a group, and dicide that each beneficiary should regrow the okra at the end of the first phase for the projet circle at the end of May. Every body should tried to give back what he or she receive.
Lessons Learnt
We relise that the project was a relief to all beneficiaries and to some extent to non beneficiries alike, people are able to take care of their domestic affair and assist other family members.
In conclusion I will say the project is statifactries (satisfactory).
Continue to pray for us. Stay blessed.
Brima,
We hope our efforts as a church, in the heart of the community of Olney, will continue to prove beneficial to our friends in Newton in 2008/2009.
