Report on Skills Training Centre, Newton

The following is an abstract from the report we received in early May this year from the Secretary of the committee in Newton. The English is not necessarly correct, but the easiest way to interpret what is written is to say out loud what is written. Since we received this report we have had confirmation that the roof has been completed on the administration building. The plan is for three buildings in a ‘U' shape, with the administration building at the base of the ‘U'. The fourth side would be closed by a wall and doors for security etc.

The Skills Centre job started last year July to August 2007. Hence progress has been made in gradual processes. For the smooth running of the centre. A working committee was set up to discuss of the skill on emergency and as well as monitor and report to the committee at meeting. It was intended to construct a guest room and administrative building, which we are speedily rounding up. It is a delay because it is a bit complex to finish, but has brought all the materials necessary for it completion. From December to April we have complete the other building which will be used as a class room. In such two building has been built with in a year. Even though we have roofed the one building and the other is yet to be roofed, we still need to do more such as pave, plasting, painting, buying doors and windows, we considered this to be second face of the project, below are some of the materials we need to buy.

•  Cement for plastering and pave

•  Paint for painting the building

•  Celotex for sealing the building

•  Steal door and glass window

•  Tiles and any other miscellaneous

The next projection is to now start up the skill education, how will this happen? We will start registration soonest: but the intension is to start with the building and carpentry. Remember that we intend to pursue four causes only and this are:

•  Building and carpentry

•  Typing and computing

•  Adult and agric education

•  Tailoring

The building and carpentry department will be use to construct our next building to come as their practical. But the question is, we have to give incentive to facilitator/tutor.

Initially and learners registration fees will be less effective as a start. We need to create means of encouraging learner to buy the idea. I am living with this with you to respond. The detail expenditure or costing will be sent to you later. The problem we have in Sierra Leone is inflation on the cost of commodities. To prepare an estimate, will always be contradicting in the sense that since money are sent in bit and also take time to raise price of material could have gone up before money reach us, but not we standing, we are also able to use our managerial skills in achieving our objectives.
