Become a friend of the Olney Newton Link

The Olney-Newton Link is a charity whose aim is “to advance education and to relieve poverty in the village of Newton , Sierra Leone , by the provision of charitable assistance”. Life in this poorest of African nations may seem a far cry from ours here in Buckinghamshire, but there is a historic and significant link between our two communities, originating from the start of the slave trade.

Following the end of Sierra Leone 's civil war in 2001, the link was re-established and a Shelter Project set up to raise funds to assist Newton people in rebuilding lives shattered during the hostilities. Initially the Link established the target of rebuilding 100 new homes, 70 of these have now been rebuilt and families re-housed. Further projects are now being proposed, including a new Skills Centre.

We would like to invite you to become a Friend of ONL. For a minimum donation of £10, we will send you regular newsletters telling of how projects are progressing, news of events, and ways in which you may wish to help. The donations will go entirely towards the Link, and help with the range of work already underway in Newton itself, and with future projects.
